..because the world's 36 million blind are not an endless pool of need,

The Best Job in the World
Job posting showing beautiful tropical island.
In 2009, Queensland, Australia ran a tourism promotion* disguised as a job listing that required applicants to submit persuasive videos. Several server crashes, various related hoaxes, and 35,000 applicants from 200 countries later, the six-month position vacation -- with its large salary, luxury lodging, and free transportation -- was awarded. Ben Southall, a 34-year-old "charity fundraiser and ostrich-rider" (huh?) from the UK, officially had the "Best Job in the World."

I beg to differ.

Though the view from my desk in no way matches Ben's, I am allowed to be part of Christ's amazing process of building His Church around the world, an intricate complexity of beautiful stories that will continue through history, as the great Master Builder quietly and steadily fits broken and apparently useless stones into the most excellent places in His structure.

Another of my duties is to be a channel of blessing to disciplemakers (who happen to be blind) who are pouring out their lives for others. I get to watch as they share what they are given with the needy blind around them**, often in costly, stunning ways in the midst of their own poverty.

And I work together with and am challenged by joyful, prayerful, surrendered folk***, who are following hard after our Lord in creative, amazing ways, and who encourage me to walk rightly as well.

Oh, by the way, isn't your job description exactly the same as mine?

Gainfully employed with you,
Joel
